What safety certifications apply to the SP5+ and ST5+?

The SP5+ and ST5+ electrical systems are designed to comply with applicable international safety requirements. Documentation relating to UL 2271 and UL 2849 is available upon request.

UL 2271 addresses batteries used in light electric vehicles, while UL 2849 evaluates an e-bike’s electrical system, including the battery, charger, drive system, and their interaction. Certification may apply to a complete system or an individual component, so customers who require formal certification should request documentation for the specific model and configuration rather than relying on a general standards statement.

Contact X-LAB Support with the model name and serial number to request the applicable certification information.

How do I reset my X-LAB e-bike?

To perform a basic system reset:

  • Turn the e-bike completely off.
  • Press and hold the bike’s power button for approximately 10 seconds.
  • Continue holding it until the LED indicators flash.
  • Release the button and wait briefly.
  • Turn the bicycle back on and check its operation.

A reset can help recover the system after a temporary connection or software issue. If the bike does not respond, charge it using the supplied charger and try again. If the problem continues, note the LED behavior or error message and contact an authorized X-LAB dealer or X-LAB Support.

How can I update my bike’s firmware?

Firmware updates are installed through the X-LAB mobile app:

  • Charge the bicycle and your phone before starting.
  • Turn on the bicycle.
  • Enable Bluetooth on your phone and open the X-LAB app.
  • Connect to your bicycle.
  • Open the settings menu and select “Firmware Update.”
  • Follow the instructions shown in the app.

Keep the phone close to the bicycle and do not turn off the bike, close the app, or disable Bluetooth while an update is installed. After completion, restart the bicycle if instructed. If the update fails, reopen the app, reconnect the bike, and try again before contacting support.

Is the internal e-bike battery user-removable?

No. The SP5+ and ST5+ use an integrated battery that is not intended for routine removal by the rider. The integrated design protects the system and creates a cleaner appearance.

Battery inspection, diagnosis, removal, and replacement should be completed by an authorized X-LAB dealer or qualified e-bike technician. Do not open the frame or disconnect the battery yourself, as improper handling can damage the electrical system and create a safety risk.

Use only the supplied or approved charger, and contact a dealer if the battery is damaged, unusually hot, swollen, leaking, or no longer charging normally.

Can the SP5+ use its throttle when configured as a Class 3 e-bike?

Yes. When the SP5+ is configured for Class 3 operation, throttle assistance remains limited to a maximum of 20 mph.

Permitted e-bike configurations and throttle use can vary by jurisdiction and riding location. Riders are responsible for checking the rules that apply on local roads, bicycle lanes, paths, and trails. Changing the bike’s configured class does not guarantee that throttle operation is permitted everywhere the bicycle may be ridden.

What is the range for the SP5+ and ST5+ under full charge with different modes?

Under ideal conditions and with a fully charged battery, estimated range is approximately:

Model | ECO Mode | SPORT Mode | TURBO Mode

ST5+ | 78 miles / 125 km | 65 miles / 105 km | 58 miles / 93 km

SP5+ | 43 miles / 69 km | 39 miles / 63 km | 34 miles / 54 km

These figures are estimates rather than guaranteed distances. Actual range can be affected by rider and cargo weight, elevation, wind, temperature, tire pressure, road surface, acceleration, riding speed, stop-and-start traffic, battery condition, and the amount of motor assistance used.

For the greatest range, begin with a fully charged battery, maintain the recommended tire pressure, use ECO mode when practical, and shift into an appropriate gear rather than relying on maximum motor assistance.
